BSidesKC Villages

At the BSidesKC event, participants can explore the exciting world of electronics and enhance their technical skills at the Hardware Hacking & Learn to Solder village. This hands-on village is designed for both beginners and those wishing to refine their soldering abilities. Attendees can learn the fundamental techniques of soldering in a practical, hands-on way. Equipped with all essential tools and equipment, including high-quality soldering stations, the village provides a perfect setting for attendees to practice assembling and repairing electronic components. Knowledgeable and experienced instructors will be readily available to guide participants through the process, offering expert advice and tips to ensure a valuable and enjoyable learning experience. Participants will leave the Learn to Solder Village with newfound skills, confidence, and potentially a new passion for electronics and making. Experienced staff will be on hand to provide troubleshooting support and guidance, ensuring that every participant can navigate challenges with ease and security.

Join the KC TOOOL (The Open Organization of Lockpickers) chapter to learn all about physical security, sport picking, and non-destructive entry techniques. And, they are also bringing lock pick sets to sell!

Locksport is a way to increase the knowledge of physical security by educating and training how physical barriers to entry operate, are constructed, and can be bypassed.

The KC TOOOL chapter & BSidesKC do NOT condone the use of lockpicking for illegal use. We only pick locks that we own and locks that are not in use. Any lockpicking done on locks that are in use are done with the permission of the owner at the risk of breaking the lock.

The mission of the Open Organisation Of Lockpickers is to advance the general public knowledge about locks and lockpicking. By examining locks, safes, and other such hardware and by publicly discussing our findings we hope to strip away the mystery with which so many of these products are imbued.

The more that people know about lock technology, the better they are capable of understanding how and where certain weaknesses are present. This makes them well-equipped to participate in sportpicking endeavors and also helps them simply be better consumers in the marketplace, making decisions based on sound fact and research.

In an increasingly wireless world, it’s important to keep tabs on those wireless technologies that control everything around us. The RF village is a place to get exposed to some of what makes wireless work. Come by the RF Village to get a glimpse of the world of RF and how you can interact with it. Some of the demos will include analog technologies like basic radio transceivers, digital technologies like positioning, telemetry, personal communications, as well as general techniques for decoding or attacking wireless communications.

Health and Wellness Village

Mental Health Hackers (https://www.mentalhealthhackers.org/) is dedicated to educating IT, infosec, and privacy professionals about the unique mental health risks faced by those in our field and provide guidance on reducing the effects of related mental health issues such as anxiety, depression, social isolation, and other mental health disorders. This village offers a common place to allow like-minded individuals to share and grow as a community and to better our mental health, as well as the health of those around us. Stop by to chat with a Mental Health Hackers team member, pick up educational materials, explore the available relaxation activities, or just take a few minutes to re-energize in a quiet space during the conference.
